A flat between classic and modern

Archventil, an international architecture and interior design studio, has overseen the interior design of a luminous flat located within THE LOMA, a historic Milanese building converted into a contemporary residential complex to the design of architect Roberto Battistello.

The exterior façade alternates traditional elements – such as the string-course cornices – with the geometric decorations of the large windows, a combination of classic and contemporary is also reflected in the interiors.
Located on the top floor of the building, the flat opens outwards through large industrial-style windows, which run along the two main elevations of the house.
The interiors are characterised by fine finishes, such as the natural gré stone covering the window sills and the kitchen and island tops, and the Hungarian herringbone oak parquet, a material chosen to dialogue with the façade and style of the building.
Archventil worked on the layout, finishes, lighting and furnishings, mixing classic materials, contemporary furnishings and iconic design pieces, including vintage ones, all distinguished by a light colour scheme in the living area and bedrooms, dark in the master bedroom.

Bordered by a glass structure with custom-made metal profiles, the dining room is an intimate corner in visual continuity with the rest of the room, created with glass doors that slide open without obstructing the passage.
This area is served by a kitchen with an L-shaped configuration that integrates the hob and sink and maximises the space outside the ‘showcase’. The linearity of the kitchen top made of gré logs becomes, at the window, a comfortable wooden shelf that serves as a small desk for work from home.

The large open space accommodates, on the left side of the room, the living area. Here the details are designed to create a bright, comfortable and cosy environment where the warmth and materiality of the wood balance the matt black finish of the window and door frames.
In the centre of the living room, a soft sofa with a delicate patterned fabric is combined with colourful design and artistic elements. Opposite the sofa, in fact, a wall unit houses colourful accessories and works of art such as drawings by Christo and Jeanne – Claude.
The lights have also been selected as works of art.

For the sleeping area, the studio opted for darker shades, choosing an olive green that appears both in the form of paint and wallpaper.
Custom designed with a black metal frame, coordinated with the window frames, and bronzed smoked glass, the cabin has dark wood shelves that create a nice contrast with the light oak flooring.
The two bathrooms in the house remained in their original position and were customised with fibreglass and 3D ceramic elements. The studio also custom-designed the laundry room furniture.
The most significant change to the original layout of the flat concerned the sleeping area, in particular the two small bedrooms were joined to create a communicating space that could be divided if necessary.
