Palazzo Perticari is reborn in Pesaro, by Studio Paci

Palazzo Perticari has always been considered among the most prestigious historical palaces in the city of Pesaro. Situated on the main street of the historic centre and built on a Renaissance residential nucleus, the palace reached its maximum splendour at the end of the 18th century when it became a salon for literary studies and worldly pastimes, with guests of the calibre of Gioachino Rossini and Stendhal.

The ambitious restoration project, overseen by Studio Paci, under the supervision of the Marche Region’s Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape, aimed to return a true architectural and cultural jewel to the city.

The building, which comprises four floors above ground and a floor of underground grottoes, is made up of a succession of fine rooms with coffered ceilings, frescoes on the walls by Lazzarini’s pupils, frescoed vaults and a splendid count’s study. The main façade, articulated on three levels, still retains a marble portal with an Art Nouveau frieze and an 18th-century wooden entrance door; the interior also contains a magnificent courtyard. Studio Paci was responsible for the design of a complex intervention aimed at recovering, consolidating and restoring the building which, when it was acquired by the current owner, was in a state of neglect and decay.

With the realisation of an integrated project three structural works aimed at seismic improvement (consolidation of foundations, masonry, vertical connections, reconstruction of roofs and stiffening of vaults and floors) and internal redistribution works, restoration of architectural finishes and restoration of the ancient decorations, made almost invisible by time, it can be said that the building has returned to its former splendour.

The building has been described as a true ‘journey into beauty’, not only because it will house public functions such as a museum, a 50,000-volume library, spaces for public initiatives, a guesthouse and a restaurant, but because in its splendid setting of frescoes, vaults and decorated ceilings it will represent a cultural landmark for the city and a paradise for scholars and artists.
