Architect Giuseppe Albera, of AMA – Albera Monti Architetti studio, creates the Silent Disco lamp, presented during the last Orgatec.
Conceived as both a decorative and functional piece of furniture, the lamp is designed to be best used inside offices, shops and spaces in the hospitality sector.
“As an architect, I have been collaborating with Slalom on fit-out projects for some time. It was during one of our last projects together, the creation of a custom-made sound-absorbing panel for the training rooms of a robotic surgery company, that the idea of a light fitting with sound-absorbing properties was born”, explains Giuseppe Albera. ”So I started from the prototype to evolve and transform it”.
Silent Disco is characterised by two convex circular panels, sewn together and covered in sound-absorbing fabric. This disc is crossed by cylinders of different lengths, but with the same diameter, which accommodate inside them the LEDs that provide the lighting.
The figure of the circle, expressed in cylinder and bi-convex disc, offers the possibility of customisation, both in the material of the coverings and in the composition.
In fact, depending on the customer’s needs, Silent Disco can be realised with the installation of one, three or five cylinders.
The version presented at the fair is in aviation velvet with blue stitching. The three cylinders, of two different lengths, are painted matt black, and the electric cables, covered in woven fabric of the same blue, also have a decorative function.
“The preciousness of the velvet, with the play of shades that characterise this material, makes this version sophisticated, increasing its visual and scenic impact”, explains Albera.
“My designs pay particular attention to acoustics; Slalom satisfies our customers‘ needs for aesthetics and sustainability, distinguished by the wide variety of colours, shapes and materials, chosen from sustainable supply chains”.
